Clerkenwell
Design Week is a three-day design festival that spans across Clerkenwell, London.
With over 200 showrooms and 16 exhibition venues, visitors can explore
installations, attend talks, and experience hundreds of events. Every year, we
travel to Clerkenwell to visit brands and get all the latest news and information on
upcoming launches. This year, we had an opportunity to meet
up with a range of brands, including Muuto, J.Adams, Brokis, and Bert Frank,
for a catch-up and insights into industry news.

Our first stop was Muuto, located in St John’s Square, where we received a warm welcome before taking a tour of the showroom. We had the opportunity to view and interact with designs on display, including the Beam Table Lamp, Ease Portable Lamp, and the new Rime Chandelier, a highly anticipated addition to the Rime Collection.
Rooted in Scandinavian design, Muuto offers a new perspective on design, creating timeless pieces with an emphasis on quality craftsmanship. Muuto considers how each design can trigger emotions and interact with its surroundings, resulting in pieces that are not only functional but also inviting and intuitively interactive.

Next, we
visited J.Adams, whose showroom is nestled in the heart of Clerkenwell. We were
excited to see that they are continuing their collaboration with YesColours, expanding
their palette with three new shades, which are showcased in a dynamic mural on
the showroom’s exterior.
During our
visit, we had the chance to view some popular designs, as well as some new and
upcoming releases. This includes the new Luna Wall Light, which features a
stunning oyster shell disc, and the new luxurious alabaster finish available
across a range of products. We were also given an insight into the intricate
production process and expert craftsmanship that goes into each of their
designs.
House of Detention
We then headed
over to the House of Detention, a historic venue within Clerkenwell that offers
a unique space for brands to showcase their designs. During CDW, the House of
Detention is transformed into a lighting exhibition, with brands setting up
exhibits within the old prison cells. The eerie setting was an extraordinary
backdrop for some of the festival's most innovative lighting brands. Here, we visited Nordlux,
Design for the People, a-emotional, Tala, and Tom Raffield.

Nordlux and Design for the People have an exciting year ahead with numerous upcoming product launches. This included the Glossy Mini Portable, a portable version of the Glossy Mini Table Lamp. This new portable application was added to the collection after Design for the People received feedback from clients who wanted to see a portable version in their homes/ businesses. This is a perfect example of the value DFTP places on customer feedback and the relationship that they have with their clients.
We saw Tala’s new Wake Sleep Lamp, the bedside light designed to aid in healthier sleep. Offering a choice of soundscapes, dim-to-warm lighting that mimics natural sunlight, and intuitive controls, the Wake was created to promote better rest and relaxing awakenings.

a.emotional showcased their new Bretema Suspension, which was illuminated with spotlights directed towards the piece. With the possibility of projecting images onto the suspension, the Bretema is a sculptural installation with a variety of display options.
Tom Raffield thoughtfully utilised every inch of space they were given, showcasing several new designs as well as many familiar pieces. Their expertly crafted steam-bent designs are always impressive to see in person, and getting close to the designs allows us to see the intricate detailing and appreciate the grand scale of some of their larger pieces.
Brokis
Brokis utilises the Brunner showroom to exhibit a wide range of products, with their designs spread over three floors. The bar floor resembles a hospitality setting, complete with a bar, while the first and second floors resemble an office space. This layout allows clients to visualise dynamic and innovative design solutions for their workspace.
We saw several
of their designs and got a sneak peek at the upcoming Arcade Suspension, which
combines cylindrical glass pendants with arching cables to play with the contrast
between ornate glass and industrial electrical cables.

Bert Frank
Our last stop was Bert Frank, a British brand specialising in handcrafted lighting created from the finest materials. Their award-winning collections are made to order in their Birmingham-based workshop, ensuring their pieces are always crafted with care and never mass-produced.
The showroom
display included the Bide Wall Light, which had been installed in a dynamic
configuration on the ceiling to showcase the design’s versatility. We also saw
the Doma Spotlight in a wide range of finishes that would suit a variety of
settings.
