David Pompa is a Mexican-Austrian designer and founder of studio davidpompa. Born to a Mexican father and Austrian mother, Pompa grew up between two cultures, an experience that continues to shape his approach to design. He studied product design at Kingston University in London before founding his studio in 2008. His fascination with Mexican materials began during a visit to Oaxaca, where he encountered Barro Negro and the work of local artisans. This experience became the foundation for his studio, which utilises traditional techniques through a contemporary design language.
Working closely with designers and notable brands, studio davidpompa develops lighting and homeware from materials including black clay, volcanic stone, and handblown recycled glass. Rather than concealing the marks and irregularities of handmade production, Pompa embraces them as essential characteristics of each piece. Throughout his career, David Pompa has been awarded multiple accolades, including Rising Talent M&O, Paris and Rising Talent M&O, Miami.
“We are constantly looking for new aspects of Mexican culture as we seek to create a collection that combines the essence of these materials with bold and striking aesthetics.” - David Pompa
