Mathias Hahn is a German designer working from London. He was born in Osnabrück and studied industrial design in Germany before moving to the Royal College of Art, where he completed an MA in Design Products under Ron Arad. His early experience included time in Volkswagen’s product design department, and he later set up his own London studio in 2006.
Hahn’s studio works across product design, furniture, lighting, interiors, exhibitions, art direction, and one-off production. His approach often sits between practical use and a more experimental curiosity around materials, manufacturing, and everyday objects. He was also one of the founding members of OKAYstudio, and has worked with brands including Marset, Ligne Roset, Kvadrat, Nanimarquina, Kohler, and Zeitraum.
For Marset, Hahn has designed lighting collections including Scantling and Theia, both showing his interest in structure, shadow, and the way a lamp is used over time. His work has received several international awards, including a Red Dot Best of the Best for Jinn and a Wallpaper* Design Award for his KIN furniture collection.
"Understanding the role of shadow for me is the key to designing light." - Mathias Hahn
